My first Reiki Session outdoors was completely spontaneous. When my adorable client arrived on one of the last clear sunny days and we stepped into the little practice space, my first thought was
"Why are we not outside? Maybe we should just move the table out by the garden beds?"
As Portlanders, when Summer starts to wind down, awareness of the first rainfall is usually on our radar. With rain predicted at the end of the weekend "Lets do it!" was all I heard. (Thank you Adrienne for being such a good sport!)
I had recently come across an amazing post in my feed of a woman practicing Reiki in a field with horses lingering near.
One special horse was resting his nose on the head of the client seeming to assist in the treatment. It looked heavenly. That image must have planted itself in my mind. While there are no horses at the farm, there’s something truly special about doing energy work in nature.
The delights were many; earthing with bare feet on the grass as Reiki starts to flow, the melody of rustling leaves in the tall branches overhead, the sweet birdsong, the golden hues of the autumn, the lack of bugs, the distant sounds of cows in the pasture, all lovely. Even more delightful than all of this was an awareness of the rhythm that the three of us fell into. By this I mean: Nature, Me, and my Client. Our breathing seemed to sync immediately. Each energy center received the support of the the land and wind. The breeze knew when to blow and when to be still. The birds knew when to sing and when to be silent.
I couldn’t help but feel perfectly aligned. The natural world seems to amplify the energy, and the crisp air made the experience even more cohesive. The breeze felt like it was part of the session—carrying away stagnant energy and allowing space for clarity and healing.
Reiki in the fall outdoors feels like tapping into a deeper current. There’s a sense of centered solidness that comes from grounding yourself in the earth while holding energy on someone. Like being plugged in. The cool air against your skin and the sights and sounds of nature, the calm and connection is so different from being indoors with music. After 10 or more years of practicing, I have self awareness around these "magical" feelings and knowing that I get giddy, I keep it to myself, but without a word from me, Adrienne commented on these exact feelings after the session ended.
I left Freckle Farm with a full heart and gratitude for my friends for allowing me to practice at their farm. Practicing Reiki in such a peaceful setting reminded me of how vital our connection to nature is when it comes to energy work. Heck, when it comes to life!!! If you ever get the chance to experience Reiki outdoors, especially in the fall, I can’t recommend it enough. The experience is both soothing and invigorating, like sharing space with something greater. Indeed we are.
Here’s to more sessions in nature and soaking in the magic of fall!
